WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY: ASP Celebration.
This past week Pastor Christopher has been a part of a group of 11 people representing First UMC Fort Scott as part of our 23rd mission trip with the Appalachia Service Project (ASP). ASP is a Christian ministry, open to all people, that inspires
hope and service through volunteer home repair and replacement in Central Appalachia. Since 1969, ASP volunteers have been making homes warmer, safer, and drier for families in need in Central Appalachia and providing life transforming experiences for everyone involved. Each year, ASP typically hosts more than 12,000 volunteers working in 5 different
Central Appalachian states, serving over 250 families with home repairs including floor replacement, siding, roofing, decks, ramps, and staircases.
Over the years our crews have done some of each. This year we had 2 crews, one doing roofing and the other siding. Sunday we will celebrate another successful mission trip with stories of our week. Our theme this year was Love Your Neighbor with a focus verse of Romans 12:12-13. ASP used the Contemporary English Version translation, which reads:
“Let your hope make you glad. Be patient in time of trouble and never stop praying. Take care of God's needy people and welcome strangers into your home.”
This week we have experienced and shared hospitality, help, and care. We have prayed, been prayed for, and been a part of answered prayers. We have used gift we have, gifts given on our behold, and given gifts. It has been challenging, frustrating, joyful, and hopeful. Plans have been made, changed, remade and homes and lives have been transformed. The crew thanks everyone who helped make this years trip possible and we look forward to sharing our experiences as we worship together Sunday - standing on the promises of God. See you then!
