Worship Preview for July 10th
This Weekend: Sunday at 10:30am “Here We Go Again!” Scriptures: Psalm 16:1-11 and Acts 2:22-43 with Rev. Christopher Eshelman preaching.
Pastor Christopher returns from vacation with some stories as he begins his 2nd year of appointment at First UMC Fort Scott. As we start this second year of his tenure, we’ll be looking at what membership in the church means and how we are called to live as spirit-filled Christ followers. The last time Pastor Christopher preached was Pentecost and we spent a bit of time with the familiar story of Acts 2. The wind and fire of the Spirit that drives the disciples out of their locked room and into public witness – and the gift of the Spirit that enables all those gathered from around the world for the festival to hear, each in their own language. God grants witness and courage, God grants understanding and God equips and sends. The story of Acts 2 doesn’t end with that scene – and, indeed, the story told there continues through Acts chapters 2, 3, and 4 and beyond.
This week we’ll build on those readings above and hear the stories told in Acts 3 – a healing like many told in the Gospels, but here told not about Jesus, but about his followers! And Acts 4 – a challenge – how do Peter and John understand, share and celebrate what has happened. We will think about our own stories and how we live out our faith here and now. The Spirit of Christ is, indeed, moving among us.
If you do not have a church home, or just need a change, you are invited to join in worship at 10:30am at 301 S. National, coming just as you are with your questions, doubts and hopes - and to experience the transformative, healing love and grace of Christ - which makes us whole.
