This Sunday: 10:30am –  Resurrection Stories: Pentecost

Service led by laity, scriptures and hymns style. Scriptures: Matthew 16: 13-20, John 14:1-31, Acts 2:1-47, Romans 8:1-39, Romans 12:1-16, 1 Corinthians 12:3-13

Sunday is Pentecost – a celebration of the gift of the Holy Spirit and a day often celebrated as the birth of the Church. The early church did not yet have clergy, ordination, and hierarchy but was guided by those filled with the Spirit! So today we will hear from many voices, all sharing in proclaiming the good news of Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit! Pastor Christopher has been emphasizing recently that all Christians are ministers and so, since he would be travelling today, he asked a number of us who are laity to celebrate Pentecost by leading today’s service.

We will hear, through the words of Scripture, in times of prayer and reflection, and through the hymns we sing, about the work of the church and the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we seek to share the good news of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and to exemplify the love of God by knowing Christ, growing in Christ, serving Christ and sharing Christ.

Our Easter sermon series was called “Resurrection Stories: Unlock Yours!” A key point was that Scripture is not just stories from long ago, but they are OUR stories. The stories of resurrection and transformation reveal that - by God’s grace - we have the keys to the kingdom. So whatever binds you, whatever locks you up, whatever keeps you from the life for which you were created…can be rolled away, opened, released… for we believe our stories can be rewritten each and every day!

We will dive deeply into Scriptures, exploring the gift of the Holy Spirit, remembering how Jesus led the disciples to this point, teaching and equipping. In light of their stories we’ll consider our own stories and remind ourselves how God is as close as our next breath, the next beath of our hearts. We will remember how we are each gifted and called to be fruitful, each different and each called to be a Spirit filled part of the church, the body of Christ. Alleluia. Amen! We hope you will join us at 10:30am Sunday at 301 S. National for this special day of Worship.
